I cant wait for Christmas Eve and Christmas this year! E is at such a fun age that everything is exciting and she totally gets the whole Santa thing! She keeps telling me that Santa is coming to bring her horsies and books tomorrow, and today I can say "Thats right!" She is currently sitting in her bed...should be sleeping... reading her Christmas book about Santa and Snowmen. She actually found her stocking stuffers a couple of weeks ago! I thought I was being so tricky and hiding them in a good place, but she is on to my game! And to make things worse...I can't find the stocking stuffers now! I hid them from her, and in turn hid them from myself. I don't know if it is my crazy prego brain or what but I cannot find them anywhere! If I cant find them by tonight, I am off to Walmart to make sure she has something to go in her stocking.
Another fun aspect about Christmas this year is that I get to explain to E what it is really about, our Savior Jesus Christ. We have been on hunts in my moms house and ours for all the Nativities so she could find the baby Jesus. She now recognizes them when we are out and about shopping or in someones front yard. I love to see her begin to understand, and I love to be the one to share with her the awesome truth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
Merry Christmas
Loves
MQ

So fun! i'm dying to see an updated photo of your cute E. Do you know if you're having a boy or girl with this next baby??
About the nap thing... in the books I've read and from watching my sisters kids grow up... it is normal for kids to stop taking a nap around 2-3 years old. Its usually closer 3 years old, but every child is different. If she'll stay in her room and have "quiet time" even though she isn't sleeping, that is great! That is what one of my sisters tries to do with her kids, and they really need that time to themselves.
kaden STILL has naps sometimes & he's 4...if he's not tired then he has 'quiet time' where he reads/lays on the couch watching a quiet movie. if you think she's too young to give up naps then move her nap to a later time and see if she's more tired then (kyson moved from a morning nap and afternoon nap to just an afternoon) it also depends on her bedtime. with ky's change to one nap i moved his bedtime up to 7p (from 8p) and he still slept in till 7. (sorry that was long!)
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. It is so much fun when they start to understand Santa and get excited about it. About the naps, I'm just thinking that every kid is different. My first is 4 and he doesn't take regular naps anymore, but he stopped around 3 1/2. He'll take an occasional nap if he's gone to bed late the night before or is just really tired, but not everyday. Usually we just do rest time. My younger one is 17 months and he only takes like 2 naps a week if I'm lucky. I put him down everyday, we have the same routine, and he just plays quietly in his crib for a couple hours. They're both good night sleepers (12 to 13 hours a night), but my little Dan is just a terrible napper. Good luck!
Hey MQ! It's so fun to see that you're expecting! It's been WAY too long since we talked! The last time I saw you was at Kelsey's wedding. Anyway, congratulations on the new baby! I'm so excited for you guys!
About napping...my kids go through stages where they refuse to nap, but they still really need one. This happened every time we had a big change coming, etc....Noah started getting up at 4 am every morning for 6 months after Jack was born! It was ridiculous! That's when he made friends with PBS and his highchair. :( Anyway, I think they fight it sometimes when they still really need it. So we insist that they at least sit in bed and read quietly for awhile.
After our last move, both of them were TERRIBLE about nap and bedtime. I finally figured out that I was waiting too long to do naps in the morning. So now, they get up, have breakfast, play for a few hours, have a snack & we do nap at 10 am. My almost 3 year old does great with this schedule. My 4 year old fights it some days. I try to really wear them out during those morning hours and give them a lot of my attention & then they're usually so tired they don't fight the naps.
We tried going without naps for my 4 yr old...but then he becomes this wild animal I don't recognize! So sometimes we just do the morning nap for his brother and an afternoon one for him. It's frustrating, but you have to play around with the schedule a little bit to see what works. I actually read a study recently that found that young children who don't have naps are more prone to depression, etc. lol...who knows if that's true or not, but I do think they really need some quiet time each day at least.
Okay, there's my novel. Sorry...that's what you get for not talking to your cousin for a year! :D lol! I miss you! I hope you guys are doing well, and I hope we get to hang out soon! We still need to have a cousins weekend!
Love you!
Laura
